go figure. i cross the pond and make my way to this european realm, similar to a grand tour, minus a handful of train rides and pocket-sized tutors by my every move. But despite some of the drawbacks and struggles (the weak dollar for one!) compared to the former victorian social and intellectual elites, i am here. and as i am here my favorite childhood pleasures, Barbar the Elephant, has found it's way to New York with the exhibit "Drawing Barbar: Early Drafts and Watercolors" at the Morgan Library Museum. thanks ny times art review for the tip.

check out these illustrations. presenting the early stages of barbar as originally thought-up from the bedtime stories of Cecile de Brunhoff and then elaborated by her husband even later on their son, Laurent de Brunhoff, who is still in charge of the Barbar name.


and like a 10-year-old with a big box of crayola crayons and large sheets of paper these initial creations of Barbar do not disappoint. look at him in his immaculately-tailored green suit and cute elephant gray body--what a childhood joy!

my bloggerific return

okay, not like that many people read this or anything but I am back on the blogging path after a long, long, long hiatus. this time my travels and ponder are slightly different, that is geographically. i have fled from boston land and now in the cement jungle capital, also known as Manhattan. Well I know I have lots of catching up to do so to keep things timely, and to keep your interest, I will summarize with some visuals. Enjoy.

Did Heatherette Take Fashion Too Far?

Heatherette took a younger than usual spin on their spring 08 runway show, when 5 and 6 year-old girls catwalked down the aisle, mimicking the much older models before them! Are these actions presenting a sense of a corrupted youth forced on through the fashion world or is this just dress-up all in good fun?

sevigny boosts a collection!

Fashion week has officially started in the great apple, with this comes a plentiful of fashion threads from the classic and emerging designers. One of new designers is no other than the indie and very appealing fashion icon, Chloe Sevigny. This wonderful news has found me through the voices of Paper Magazine and Fashion Schmashion. Chloe's collection is for Open Ceremony, an unconvential (yet brilliant!) boutique based out of New York and Los Angeles. Her designs are to be shown on September 10th and lets just say i am shaking in my boots 'till i see the finished products!

The San Francisco Woes

Imagine this. A getaway weekend to san francisco, you quickly rummage all your essentials of survival (maybe not survival but you get the picture) into your carry-on, that favorite red shade of lipstick, your perfect white cotton voile dress that transforms one in to the quintessential angel upon wearing and your fashion forward, yet comfortable enough ballet falts to conquer the hills. You drag your belongings safely on and off the speedy one hour plane ride from lax to sf airport, then without trouble you pick up your enterprise rental car. you drive to the hotel, the fairmont, a beautiful victorianesque hotel from the 1900s conviently located on nob hill, also convientely nickamed snob hill. It's early , nine in the morning, and check-in hours are not 'til 12. So you place your bags with the bellman, while you go off and dine that fluffly aroma of breakfast floating around the hotel lobby.

At noon you return to the bellman, only to find out your bag has vanished into thin air. Not only are you stuck without your belongings but all you are wearing are cozy sweats and a tank. An hour passes and the bellman is still searching without any luck, the bag is missing! The hotel offers you money as compensation and you set out in this foriegn city searching for clothes to ==wear.

however, unlike any normal rationale person who would just buy the first thing they see, you go beyond and set out to find the items that will satisfy your liking. this is what i stumbled upon...

first i came upon the boutique brown eyed girl located at 2999 Washington street. i felt right at home in this very but together store everything caught my eye, all the way down to the personalized white and pink hangers! searching for transitional pieces that would practical for san francisco and take me into the colder climates of boston led me to to fall in love with a navy mini skirt by diables detailed with signature pockets in the front and back and paired this with a black and white striped Ella Moss blousy top. I also discover a local San Fran line that i fall in love with called Lucia by Lexi Monfrendi, from which i bought my evening wearing, a stunning emerald-green wool pleated dress. All in all, lost luggage for the day wasnt too bad for at 11:30 pm the hotel called to tell the luggage was found and would be returned early the next day! the trip continued...

updates on fashion copyright

Just last year American designers proposed the idea to stop other companies from imitating their hard worked designs. Senator Charles E. Schumer spoke on these issues uesterday at the Fashion Institue of Technology, according to the New York Times.

In addition, to reference of Schumer's speech the article brought up Fashionista.com which has been listing examples entitled, "Adventures in Copyright".

Though many in the fashion industry are for such copyright laws there are also prominent figures in fashion against these laws. Among these are Allen Schwartz of ABS, whose main role as a designer is copying dresses worn on the red carpet.
